My
paintings are of a spiritual nature, influenced by the beauty of natural forms.
Each colour has a set of clearly defined influences and meanings, which can be
invaluable in understanding the world around us and our behaviour patterns.
These qualities can also be used to create particular impressions on others. A
desired image or a subtle message can be sent with colour much more effectively
than with words.![]()
I studied at Sunderland Polytechnic from 1974 to 1978, where I obtained a B.A.(Hons) Degree in Fine Art. I then taught art and crafts to people with learning disabilities at Earls House Hospital, Durham. After obtaining the Diploma for Teachers of Mentally Handicapped Adults from New College, Durham in 1981, I continued teaching arts and crafts at a centre for physically and mentally disabled adults in Stonehaven, Scotland.
In 1987 I became a self-employed artist working mainly in gouache. Upon returning to Durham in 1988, I explored other materials and chose to specialise in glass engraving and became a member of Cohesion, a group of glassmakers. In 2003 I studied Colour Therapy and obtained a Diploma. This has led me to experiment with colour in a spiritual nature, from which my current paintings have developed.
In addition to my spiritual art I produce animal and botanical portraits, as well as a range of personalised gifts. These gifts are popular as they represent a very special time in people's lives and maintain memories in an everlasting form.
I have exhibited both individually and with groups at Durham University Botanic Gardens, The Monks Dormitory at Durham Cathedral and Durham Art Gallery, The National Glass Centre, Sunderland, with both paintings and engraved glass.
My work has sold throughout Britain and has also been taken to other countries including USA, Canada and Australia. I am happy to accept commissions. Prices range from £25.00 to £200.00
